The intelligent use of software, data and automation technology can create advantages such as lower costs and increase efficiency by improving the flow of information and by optimizing automation processes. Software enables information exchange across the supply chain, while virtual modeling and simulation reduce production risks and automation technology and data analysis enhance productivity. This session will explore the Digital Ecosystem for the Next Generation FPSO, looking at how industrial automation products and systems open up previously untapped opportunities for optimization. The session will also explore project and operational value drivers from the “Digital Asset” along with E-Working and how lessons from NASA enabled the New World of Oilfield Collaboration and Digitization.

In the present low oil price environment, offshore and FPSO industry has to think out of the box to come up with technology which can help increase reliability and reduce the cost of supply to compete with unconventional resources. With most of the easy oil already developed, and general shift of industry to gas developments requiring bigger facilities, this session will explore some of these technologies which may help reduce the cost of supply or help mitigate some risk.

2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
There are a large number of floating production facilities in the world approaching the end of their original design lives. Using enhanced recovery techniques and advanced reservoir modeling technology, operators are able to extend the life of many offshore fields well beyond their original estimates. This trend, along with the proliferation of subsea developments, has led to increased interest in Field Life Extension programs, with an emphasis on facilities integrity. In a low-price environment, it makes economic sense to refit and refurbish existing facilities to handle late-in-life production, and to accommodate tiebacks from satellite fields. This session will examine facility integrity issues and life extension strategies for FPSOs and other types of floating production systems.
Session Chairs:
